SOMERSET NEWS: Fresh appeals after M5 wrong way driver dies

POLICE are renewing their appeal for witnesses after a car drove the wrong way along the M5 in Somerset last month.

The incident took place on the M5 between junction 26 and 25 northbound on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, shortly before 6.30pm between Wellington and Taunton.

It is thought the driver joined the motorway at the Taunton Deane Services and travelled in the third lane against the flow of traffic.

He collided with approximately 15 other vehicles before coming to a stop.

But a police spokesman, speaking today (Wednesday, September 7, 2016), said: “The driver was taken to hospital but has subsequently died.SOMERSET NEWS: Fresh appeals after M5 wrong way driver dies

“He has been identified as Graham Teesdale, 83, from Rushden, Northamptonshire. Nobody else was injured during the incident.”

The police spokesman said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the vehicle joining the motorway prior to the collisions.

“We’ve spoken to a large number of witnesses who saw the vehicle on the M5 so, unless your vehicle was damaged and you have yet to contact us, we do not require any more information on this part of the incident.”
