YEOVIL NEWS: Manor Hotel wins Disability Confident award

A YEOVIL hotel has been given a top award in recognition of the way it has given people a real chance to shine in the workplace.

The Manor Hotel was delighted to win an Employer of the Year award at the Disability Confident event hosted by social enterprise scheme Pluss during a conference held at the Canalside in Bridgwater on Friday (February 5, 2016).

Pluss is a social enterprise that supports disabled people into work. They work with more than 500 employers across Somerset, helping them to recruit and retain staff with a disability.

The Sanders; Wyevale Garden Centre in Brent Knoll and Manor Hotel in Yeovil were delighted to win prestigious Employer of the Year awards at the Disability Confident event on Friday.

Disability Confident is a national campaign, launched by David Cameron last year, which encourages employers to be positive about the skills that disabled people bring to business. Pluss is a national partner in the campaign and is working closely with the Minister for Disabled People to bring the campaign to local areas.

The winners were presented with the trophy and a bottle of champagne by Pulse FM Radio. They were selected from over 500 employers because of the pro-active way they have employed disabled people. The event was also supported by Bridgwater and West Somerset MP Ian Liddell–Grainger.

Over 70 Somerset businesses attended the event with Dale Edwards, chief executive of Somerset Chamber of Commerce, as guest speaker. The employers spoke about how employing a disabled person has helped transform their customer relations and their bottom line!YEOVIL NEWS: Manor Hotel wins Disability Confident award

Vicky Cave, of the Manor Hotel in Yeovil, said she was delighted to have received the Employer of the Year award on behalf of the hotel.

She said that they had four members of staff who had been recruited from Pluss and they were each valued at the Manor.

“They love their jobs and nothing is too much trouble for them,” said Vicky. “Pluss really care about their recruits and they turn disabilities into abilities. Pluss has added to the Manor Hotel team and we can’t speak highly enough about this scheme.”

Pluss would like to thank Sedgemoor District Council for sponsoring the event. Also HaygroveSchool band for their fantastic performance, Jeff Searle from www.bridgwaterpress.co.uk (sister website of Yeovil Press at www.yeovilpress.co.uk) for photography and Penny Lane Foods for the sausages!
