YEOVIL NEWS: Santa Dash runs up the cash for St Margaret’s Hospice

THE annual St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice Santa Dash – organised by Yeovil Town Road Running Club – raised nearly £5,000 for the charity.

The event took place on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Yeovil Country Park and was sponsored by Milsted Langdon and Goldenstones leisure centre.

The cheque presentation took place at the offices of Milsted Langdon and was attended by representatives of the running club, St Margaret’s Hospice and sponsors.

Sonia Bateman, events project lead at St Margaret’s Hospice, said: “The Santa Dash is a great event and raises a lot of money for the hospice.

“The 2015 Santa Dash was the biggest year yet and we look forward to even more people entering in December 2016.

“We are really pleased to have raised £5,000, but we know that many of those who took part still have sponsorship money to collect and return to us, and we look forward to getting that in the very near future.”

Jon Stocker, of Milsted Langdon, added: “We are proud to sponsor the Santa Dash and have a long association with supporting the hospice.

“It was great to see so many people turn up and we would like to thank them for giving up their time for such a good cause.”

The event would not be possible without the help of Yeovil Town Road Running Club and thanks must go to race director Linda Membury and Mike Shead, whose family provide marshals, teas and coffees, and cakes to feed the hungry Santas.

St Margaret’s would also like to thank Yeovil town crier Bruce Trigger for his support with promotion and on the day.

Christmas 2016 may seem like a long time away – but plans are already in place to ensure that this year’s Santa Dash will be even bigger and better than before. So keep an eye out for the date.
