CHRISTMAS 2015: Keeping Yeovil town centre tidy after Christmas festivities

WHILE most people will be busy unwrapping their presents tomorrow (Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2015) morning – a member of staff from South Somerset District Council’s streetscene services department will be out in Yeovil town centre making sure it is clean and tidy.

One street cleaner will be out in Middle Street litter picking and sweeping up from the seasonal festivities, while another member of staff remains on call all day in case of an emergency.

The council’s deputy leader, Cllr Jo Roundell Greene, who is also the authority’s spokesman for environment and economic development, said: “Our staff work tremendously hard all year and Christmas is just another working day for some of them.

“We have a member of staff on call for any kind of emergency, or to respond to the collection of stray dogs, broken glass or discarded needles.

“We are dedicated to keeping the district clean and tidy. I would like to say a personal thank you to all those who work throughout the year to make South Somerset a clean and pleasant place to live, visit and work.”

So while you are out today (Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, 2015) either doing that last bit of shopping or partying late into the night - spare a thought for the street cleaner who will be working on Christmas Day and make sure you put your rubbish in the bins provided.
