SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Pet snakes banned from animal blessing service - the priest has a phobia about them!

AN ANIMAL Blessing Service will be taking place at a church in Chard next week – but snakes are banned from attending!

The service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Furnham Road, Chard, on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 6pm.

All pets are welcome such as rabbits, cats, dogs, hamsters, mice and horses.

But a church spokesman said: “We draw the line at snakes but a photograph of a snake will be blessed and of course if there are folk who cannot transport their pet then the same thing applies - please turn up with a photograph.

“We have to draw the line at snakes because of people who have a severe phobia - which includes our priest!”

And the spokesman added: “Spiders, in a properly constructed container are welcome, but not in match boxes where they are likely to escape!”
