YEOVIL NEWS: Prolific career criminal is sentenced at Taunton Crown Court

A PROLIFIC burglar from Yeovil has been sentenced to a community order and Drug Rehabilitation Requirement at Taunton Crown Court.

Daniel Smith, of Sherwell Close, was convicted on Friday (September 18, 2015) of offences of burglary, dangerous driving and disqualified driving. An offence of attempted burglary was taken into consideration.

At the hearing he was given a two-year community order, a 22-month Drug and Rehabilitation Order (DRR) and was disqualified from driving for 30 months.

On Wednesday, May 19, 2015, Smith attempted to break into a house in Heather Road, Yeovil, but he was disturbed by police officers.

Smith fled the scene, firstly on foot and then in a car. He ended up crashing the car into a wall in Wellbeck Road and was arrested.

Smith was also convicted of a burglary committed at a house in Norton-sub-Hamdon on Sunday, June 21, in which a large amount of valuables were stolen. He was forensically linked to the offence and arrested just days later.

PC Jim Card, of Yeovil police station, said: “Daniel Smith is a prolific career criminal with numerous previous convictions for burglary offences.

“The impact of burglaries on victims should never be underestimated and we’ll always do everything we can to recover property and bring offenders to justice.”
