YEOVIL NEWS: Acorn record shop is back!

THE long-time independent Yeovil record shop Acorn Music – which closed earlier this year – will soon be back in business.

Chris Lowe has been talked to come out of his two-month retirement and re-introduce Acorn to the local music scene.

Acorn Music, which was previously based in Glovers Walk, closed on April 4, 2015, after 41 years, three months and 28 days of trading.

But now Chris, who has hardly had time to put his slippers on, will be returning with Acorn Records, which was its original name, with premises upstairs at Waterloo Music in Hendford, Yeovil, just by the underground car park near Tesco.YEOVIL NEWS: Acorn record shop is back!

Chris will be joined by his long-term colleague Anna Wood and two other friends, Steve Fox and Brad Atkinson, in running the shop which will be stocked with a wide variety of CDs and vinyl albums and singles.

“I’m sort of looking forward to it - I was just beginning to get used to being out of the shop in Glovers Walk,” joked Chris. “But it should be good.

“The people from Waterloo Music came and saw me about some of my stock when I was closing and we started chatting and things just went on from there.

“I still had lots of stock left over in any case - so it will be good to get it back out on the shelves.”

It is hoped that the new Acorn Records will be opening at Waterloo Music in the third week of July.

Dawn Woodward and Ryan Leese, both of Waterloo Music, said they were delighted to welcome Chris and the team and re-introduce the much-loved independent name of Acorn Records to Yeovil.
