YEOVIL NEWS: Second year for Mayor Mike!

THE Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Mike Lock, has been elected to serve a second year of office in the role.

Cllr Lock said he was truly honoured to be given the chance to represent the town for another 12 months.YEOVIL NEWS: Second year for Mayor Mike!

The annual Mayor-Making ceremony took place last night (Tuesday, May 19, 2015) in front of family, friends and invited guests, as well as fellow members of Yeovil Town Council and council staff.

Cllr Lock said he was looking forward to another busy year along with his wife, the Mayoress, Cllr Pauline Lock.

Looking back on the previous year in which he had attended dozens of events in his Mayoral capacity, he said: “The past 12 months have given me wonderful opportunities and it has been a wonderful year.”

He joked that he had had a “few shudders” in the weeks leading up to the end of his year in office because he realised he would no longer be fussed over – if not re-elected.

“I realised I would have to do my own hair, clean my own shoes and make my own tea,” he joked. “I couldn’t give that up – so I knew I would have to be Mayor again for another year!”

Cllr Tony Lock proposed that the Mayor be given a second year and that was seconded by Cllr Andy Kendall.

“Taking on the Mayor’s job is not easy and can’t be taken lightly,” said Cllr Tony Lock. “It is a position which has to be earned and not a given right.

“Cllr Mike Lock has served Yeovil very well and he will now have a second year in which to do an even better job. The first year was a learning curve for him.”

Cllr Kendall added: “He has represented Yeovil in a gracious way and kept the town we love in the forefront.”

It was also agreed that Cllr Darren Shutler will continue to serve as Deputy Mayor for a second year as well.
