SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Mayor hands out cheques to groups

A DELIGHTED Mayor of Chard, Cllr Jenny Kenton, has presented cheques worth more than £13,000 to five groups and organisations.

The presentations were made during Chard Town Council’s annual meeting on Tuesday (April 28, 2015) at the Guildhall in Fore Street.

The Chard Carers Support Group, Chard and District Museum Society, Chard and Crewkerne After Stroke Club, Chard Area Youth Committee and the Chard Town Team each received a cheque for £2,601.95 from the Mayor.

The money had been raised through a variety of events in Chard during the 2014-15 financial year and was in aid of groups designated as the Mayor’s chosen charities.

Cllr Kenton is now coming to the end of her two-year tenure in the role of Mayor and during that time she has raised £20,000 for charitable organisations and groups.

The money had been raised through 60 events organised by the Mayor over her two years in office.
