SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Hobbycraft backs craft weekend at Ferne Animal Sanctuary

YOUNG visitors at Ferne Animal Sanctuary near Chard were given a great weekend of craft activities – thanks to Hobbycraft.

As part of its Easter Eggstravaganza, the creative weekend was a first for Ferne and introduced over 100 local children into the world of crafts.

A huge range of materials were donated by Hobbycraft, from Newton Abbott in Devon, enabling the children to glue, stick and paint numerous creations.

These included making animal masks, foam Easter baskets, decorated Easter egg pictures and Easter cards. Even more fun was had learning how to use glass painting kits, pompoms and pipe cleaners.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Hobbycraft backs craft weekend at Ferne Animal Sanctuary

The children also created pictures to enter “The Most Gloriously Impressively Decorated Egg Competition”

Jennifer Pratt, team leader from Hobbycraft, said: “We try to support local charities and always like to be in the community getting people interested in crafts.

“My parents rehomed a dog from Ferne Animal Sanctuary a long time ago, so we know about the great work they do and were very keen to support them at their recent event.”

Sharon Pavey, head of fundraising and marketing at Ferne Animal Sanctuary, said: “It was incredibly generous of Hobbycraft to support our activities, which makes visiting the Sanctuary so much more fun for our younger visitors.

“The visitors who support us enable us to care for the 300+ animals here at Ferne and help us rehome cats, dogs and horses within a 40 mile radius, which includes most of Devon.”

Ferne Animal Sanctuary is a registered Charity open to the public all year round, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

They rely solely on donations. To find out how to volunteer and learn more about all their upcoming events including their 75th Anniversary Ball on September 19, 2015, at WoodlandsCastle, Taunton, please visit www.ferneanimalsanctuary.org or call 01460-65214.
