YEOVIL NEWS: Put your best foot forward for Walk for Wards!

YEOVIL District Hospital’s charity Walk for Wards event is set to be this year’s biggest hospital fundraiser.

Hundreds of people are expected to take part in the walk within the picturesque grounds of SherborneCastle on Sunday, July 12, 2015.

Walk for Wards is a national initiative, giving everyone around the country the chance to do something for their local hospital.YEOVIL NEWS: Put your best foot forward for Walk for Wards!

Hospital charities around the country are holding a sponsored walk throughout the summer. You can choose to support a particular unit, ward, appeal or the hospital in general through taking part.

Yeovil Hospital Charity’s walk has a choice of routes to suit all fitness levels. For the more adventurous there is a three-mile walk and for those with young children or those who cannot manage the “big one” there is a one-mile walk over very easy terrain.

Hospital community fundraiser, Sarah Cherry, said: “We have previously organised a toddler toddle to raise funds for SCBU, but this year we wanted to be able support more areas and encourage more people to support their local hospital.

“Sherborne Castle has the fantastic space to allow us to do both walks.”

Walk for wards is free to register, you can sign-up online by going to www.yeovilhospital.co.uk/walk-for-wards or email Sarah.Cherry@ydh.nhs.uk or call 01935-383020 for a paper copy of the registration form.

Once registered, you are asked to raise at least £10 per person in sponsorship. Obviously they hope you will raise much more than that for such a worthwhile cause.

Nurse consultant Janine Valentine said: “By taking part in this event, you are supporting local people who need a little help.

“Your support will make a real difference to patients, including those who need life-saving or specialist treatment, mums and new babies, and of course the older people of our community who often rely on their services the most.

“It’s your hospital, so come on, get registered and get all of your friends and family involved.”
