SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Open day success at Ferne Animal Sanctuary

AN Open Day at the Ferne Animal Sanctuary near Chard was a huge success and raised more than £2,000 for the charity.

As well as seeing and learning about the animals, a packed Sanctuary saw families taking part in an Easter Treasure Trail, face painting, crafts, competitions and more.

The three prize-winners of the Most Gloriously Impressively Decorated Egg were Fleur Dale, aged ten, her brother Oliver, aged six, and Megan Clark, aged three.

They were each presented with their prizes and certificates on the day by the competition judge, Nanette Wale, who is also chairman of Trustees at Ferne.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Open day success at Ferne Animal Sanctuary

Sharon Pavey, head of fundraising and marketing at Ferne Animal Sanctuary, said: “It was brilliant to see the Sanctuary full of so many youngsters having a great time.

“Thank you to all our sponsors and the 35 volunteers who made this day such fun. As a charity we rely on volunteers and we’re always looking for more help with fundraising events.”

Ferne Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity open to the public all year round, except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

They re-home within a 40-mile radius of their site including Somerset, Devon and Dorset and rely solely on donations.
