SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Family mourn death of crash victim

THE man who died following a road traffic collision near Ilminster last weekend has been officially named by police.

Gary Powell, aged 27, from Chard, died following the collision at about 9.40pm on Saturday, April 4, 2015, on the unclassified road at Whitelackington close to Back Lane.

Police have this morning (Thursday, April 9, 2015) officially named Mr Powell and issued a statement from his devastated family.

“Gary was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend and recently father to his four-week-old baby girl,” said the statement. “He will be greatly missed by those he has left behind.

"We will never forget you. You will be forever in our hearts."

Mr Powell was driving a Ford Focus which was in collision with a Ford Mondeo, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Despite receiving treatment, Mr Powell died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle suffered a fractured pelvis and a broken leg.

Collision investigators are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help their enquiries. If you are able to help, contact the collision investigation unit on the force number 101.
