YEOVIL NEWS: Waterloo Music hits the right note

A NEW music shop officially opened in Yeovil today (Saturday, March 28, 2015) and was an instant smash hit with customers.

Waterloo Music has opened in one of Yeovil’s oldest town centre buildings in Hendford – a Grade Two listed building dating from the late 1700s and in times gone by has been home to The Cottage Café and Modelkits.

It had been closed for a number of years, but it has undergone a major refurbishment – including the installation of stairs for the first time in 40 years – to create Waterloo Music.YEOVIL NEWS: Waterloo Music hits the right note

The store is a venture between the Emporium’s Dawn Woodward, who runs guitar shop Know Strings, along with local musicians Ryan Leese and Simon Evans.

Ryan, who is the Waterloo Music’s store manager, told the Yeovil Press today (Saturday, March 28, 2015) that they had been delighted with their opening day.

“It’s been very busy,” he said. “Lots of people have been coming in to have a look – and long may that continue.”

Waterloo Music will be selling guitars, keyboards, drums and accessories and will also provide a teaching room for pupils and tutors to work form.

Ryan said he was delighted to see Waterloo Music finally open and was looking forward to a successful future.

He is a drummer in the local rock band, Hundred Days, along with Simon Evans and Stuart Curtin.

The store – which will open Monday to Saturday between 10am and 6pm - will also act as a box office for tickets for events at the Westland leisure complex in Yeovil and take over that role from the long-running Acorn Music in Glovers Walk, Yeovil, which is closing next Saturday (April 4, 2015).

Ryan paid tribute to Acorn Music’s Chris Lowe, who is closing up to enjoy a well-deserved retirement, and said he had been very supportive of the Waterloo Music project.
