SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Queen Camel couple celebrate Diamond Wedding

A QUEEN Camel couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last week with a lunch at the village's Mildmay Arms.

Raymond and Mollie Foster have lived in the village for the past 25 years having originated from London.

They had met at the youth club at their local Kenton Methodist Church in Harrow and then married on March 19, 1955, at the same venue.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Queen Camel couple celebrate Diamond Wedding

Mr Foster, now 84, had worked for many years for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and projects included the Hilton in Park Lane, the Royalty Theatre and the British Library.

Mrs Foster, now 82, described herself as being a "housewife and mother" as well as having worked for the British and Foreign Bible Society.

The couple have three sons - Michael, Jeremy and Paul - and two grandchildren.

They moved to Somerset when Mr Foster retired - although he knew the West Country having been evacuated to Halstock during the war.

While Mr Foster was evacuated, Mrs Foster stayed in London with her parents during the war and "slept in a cupboard under the stairs" during the German bombing raids.

The happy couple were given a rousing round of applause on Thursday (March 19, 2015) when Mildmay Arms landlord Ian Woodward announced to other diners that they were celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

When asked about the secret to 60 years of married life, Mrs Foster said: "When you make your marriage vows you mean them and then you have to live them to the full."
