YEOVIL NEWS: Mike Slade update – making improvement

THE family of Yeovil man Mike Slade who was found with serious head injuries in the town centre last weekend have said that he is making “very small steps” of improvement.

The Yeovil Press reported how Mr Slade, 51, was found by members of the public at about 3am on Sunday, February 1, 2015, in an alleyway in West Hendford between the Tesco car park and the Manor Hotel.

He was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he has undergone a couple of operations and been kept in a medically-induced coma.

Mr Slade’s brother and sister-in-law Rob and Sarah have taken great comfort from the amount of messages of support they have received from well-wishers.

Sarah, speaking to the Yeovil Press yesterday evening (Saturday, February 7, 2015) after returning home from Southmead, said that Mike was making progress.

“Mike continues to make very small steps of improvement,” she said. “He is no longer sedated, but has not woken up yet. He is also initiating his own breathing even though he is still connected to a ventilator.”YEOVIL NEWS: Mike Slade update – making improvement

It means that the hospital are no longer sedating him to keep him in a coma, but due to the high level of drugs already pumped into Mr Slade it is keeping him asleep until the effects of the medication wear off.

The family know it will take a long time before they know the true extent of Mr Slade’s injuries and what effect it has on him.

Police have been appealing for anyone with information about what happened to Mr Slade to come forward.

Anyone who can help police – please call Yeovil CID via the 24-hour enquiry centre on 101 and quote log number 191 of 1 Feb.
