Candidates will then progress through an online assessment and complete an application form.

This year, the recruitment is being phased-in in line with the police’s resource requirements. The process will re-open later in the year to enable people who may not be ready or eligible to apply right now to still join.

Acting Chief Constable John Long said: “I look forward to welcoming new officers who can help us make a difference and support our guiding ambition to make the communities of Avon and Somerset safe and feel safe.

“We want to reach all parts of the community and I hope to see people from all corners of the force area apply. It’s important that our workforce reflects the communities we serve to provide value and build trust. That’s why we’re actively encouraging people from all cultural, ethnic and religious background to consider a rewarding career in policing with us.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens said: “Policing is a challenging and rewarding job and it is vital that the service reflects the communities it serves. Opportunities to recruit police officers over the next few years will be few and far between so I hope people will strongly consider this exciting opportunity now.

“I want all residents to be safe and feel safe and I believe having a diverse workforce is an important part of this. People relate to people and different people can bring different life experiences to the role of a police officer. It is only by embracing this diversity that Avon and Somerset can be the best policing service for local people.”
