SOMERSET NEWS: Who fancies a career as a midwife?

ANYONE who is considering training to be a midwife is invited to spend a day with midwives at Yeovil District Hospital.

The careers day on Saturday, March 14, 2015, will be held in the hospital’s Academy and is aimed at students aged 16 and above who are interested in a career in midwifery.

Midwifery practice educator, Sallyann Batstone, said: “We frequently receive requests for work experience placements in maternity, which we are not able to provide due to the sensitive nature of our work.SOMERSET NEWS: Who fancies a career as a midwife?

“These events provide the opportunity to meet some of the midwives and current student midwives who are based in the maternity department.”

The day will provide an opportunity to learn more about antenatal and postnatal screening; the specialist roles undertaken by midwives and will provide an overview of the midwives role in birth and infant feeding.

There will be practical sessions and there will also be advice on applying for university to study for midwifery.

There is a £50 charge for the day to cover costs and lunch and refreshments are included.

Full details on how to apply are available from Elaine Cox in the Yeovil Academy. To contact Elaine please email Elaine.cox@ydh.nhs.uk or telephone 01935-384529.
