SOMERSET NEWS: Awards for Watchet Harbour baby rescuers

FIVE people who helped in the rescue of a six-month-old baby have been presented with a Royal Humane Society award.

George Reeder, Tanya Allen, Simon Bale, Shaun Anning and Steve Yeandle were all presented with the award in recognition of their efforts when little Samuel Cooper-Stevens tipped over the edge of Watchet Harbour in his pushchair in January.

Mr Anning and Mr Yeandle pulled Mr Reeder from the water after he had jumped into the “cold and choppy sea” to rescue the baby, while Mrs Allen and Special Constable Bale resuscitated Samuel.

Mr Reeder said: “I’m just glad to have been there at the right time in the right place.”

They received their awards at a presentation ceremony held at Dillington House near Ilminster.
