CHRISTMAS 2014: Nominations need to be in for festive lights competition!

WHO is putting the sparkle into Christmas in your street or neighbourhood? Nominations for Yeovil Town Council’s annual Christmas Lights competition need to be in today (Thursday, December 18, 2014).

Each year the council runs a Christmas Lights competition to acknowledge the efforts made by residents to brighten up their neighbourhoods for the festive season by putting on their own Christmas Lights display outside their house.CHRISTMAS 2014: Nominations need to be in for festive lights competition!

The competition includes Yeovil Without Parish Council and this year has been extended again to include properties in Brympton Parish and West Coker Parish Councils so that all of the residential areas in Yeovil are able to enter into the competition.

If you would like to nominate a display in Yeovil that impresses you, please send your name and telephone number and the address of the householder’s display you would like to nominate (and their name and telephone number if possible) to: Adam Lane at Yeovil Town Council, The Town House, 19 Union Street, Yeovil, BA20 1PQ.

You can also nominate online at http://www.westerngazette.co.uk/Christmas-Light-Competition-2014, telephone 01935-382424 or email details along with a photograph to ytc@yeovil.gov.uk - and feel free to nominate your own display!

But nominations must be received by today – Thursday, December 18, 2014!

Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Mike Lock, who will help with the judging, is looking forward to touring the area and seeing the festive efforts.

“Each year people go out of their way to create uplifting and creative displays,” he said. “The amount of hard work and thought that goes into these displays is impressive and we would like to reward those that go above and beyond to create the best display in the Yeovil and surrounding area.”

The winner of the competition will receive a cup donated by former town councillor, Audrey Bartlett, and a £50 voucher to purchase external Christmas lights kindly given to us by Brimsmore Garden Centre of The Gardens Group; which will be presented by the Mayor in the New Year.

Second place will receive a meal for two and a bottle of wine courtesy of Mark and the team at The Arrow.

Third place is £25 courtesy of Yeovil Without Parish Council. Yeovil Without Parish Council will also be awarding £25 to the best Christmas lights display in their parish.
