SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Tree falls on home

FIREFIGHTERS from across the area were called out early this morning (Thursday, November 27, 2014) after a tree had fallen onto a home near Ilminster.

Fire engines from Ilminster, Chard and Yeovil along with a specialist rescue team from Bridgwater were mobilised at just after 4.15am to reports from police about the problem at Cricket Malherbie with the occupant unable to get out of the property.

By the time firefighters had arrived the occupant had managed to get out of the building and they helped to make the scene safe.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman told the Yeovil Press: “Western Power Distribution and BT were requested to attend as a large branch from a 100ft oak tree had affected cables.

“A road closure was put in place and Highways Authority was requested to attend along with a tree surgeon.

“The property sustained damage to the roof and masonry.”
