YEOVIL NEWS: Westfield’s Class of 1979 reunion – organised 9,400 miles away Down Under!

A SCHOOL reunion will be held tonight (Saturday, October 18, 2014) in Yeovil with the organiser having travelled around 9,400 miles to attend.

The reunion will be for Westfield School’s Class of ’79 – with this year marking their 35th anniversary – and it will be held at the Quicksilver Mail at the top of Hendford Hill in Yeovil from 7pm.

The reunion has been organised by Karen Hislop who moved to Australia back in January 1988 with “three children and eight suitcases.”YEOVIL NEWS: Westfield’s Class of 1979 reunion – organised 9,400 miles away Down Under!

But organising a school reunion from her home in Sawtell which is near Coffs Harbour in New South Wales has had its complications.

“I’ve had to do a lot of the communicating with people on social media in the middle of the night in Australia when everyone is up and about in England,” she told the Yeovil Press.

To help with organising Karen enlisted the support of some of her former classmates back home in England and now they are hoping for a good turnout tonight at the Quicksilver.

“I would like to thank everybody as it has turned into a huge group effort in trying to get students and teachers together on one night in one place,” said Karen.

“I’m hoping students and teachers from Westfield’s Class of 1979 can either pop in for a few minutes or a few hours for a drink and a chat to see what has become of each other.

“I’m sure there will be some interesting stories.”

Karen added: “I know I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone – I’m travelling halfway round the world for this!”
