SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Casualty left impaled on fence post
AIR ambulance paramedics flew a casualty to hospital this morning (Monday, October 6, 2014) after they had been thrown from a vehicle and impaled on a fence post.
The incident happened at just after 11.45am at Lopen near South Petherton and ambulance personnel requested the support of the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
A Fire Service spokesman told the Yeovil Press: “We were told that a casualty had been thrown from a vehicle at about 60mph and left impaled on a fence post.
“One fire engine from Crewkerne was sent out and it was confirmed that one casualty had been impaled through the leg by a piece of wood.”
The spokesman added: “Crews assisted ambulance colleagues by removing a short piece of wood from the object the casualty was impaled on.
The casualty was then taken to hospital via air ambulance.
