SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Results, news and photos from Chard Children’s Carnival

EARLY morning heavy rain stopped just in time for some sunshine to come through yesterday (Saturday, October 4, 2014) for the annual Chard Children’s Carnival – but it was a snow-themed entry which caught the imagination of judges.

The creative Let It Snow entry with Lucy May Brion, Owen Muckersie, Brooke and Harper Oliver took first place in the groups of three and above category and was also named overall winner of the Carnival.

Although entries were down on previous years, there was still plenty of imaginative and fun-filled creations to entertain the crowds who lined the town centre streets for the procession.

The Carnival was joined by the Chard Gold Star Majorettes and members of the Kelly Leigh School of Dance.

Morning rain saw judging take place inside Manor Court Primary School and Molly Hughes was named winner of the single entry up to five-years-old with Flutterby Butterfly.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Results, news and photos from Chard Children’s Carnival

Stilt-walking Lily Cumming claimed the single entry aged six to 16 category with Peacock and also won the Spirit of Carnival award.

Monica Newbery and Oliver Newbery won the pairs category with their simple, but cleverly imaginative, Bee Keeper entry.

The wheeled entries class was won by another Carnival regular – Alfie Windsor – with You Are a Pirate.

The Mayor of Chard, Cllr Jenny Kenton, was there to support the young Carnivalites and she thanked all the entries and the organisers for their efforts.
