SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Car arson attack near South Petherton

FIREFIGHTERS were called out early this morning (Sunday, October 5, 2014) to deal with a car fire on the outskirts of South Petherton.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told the Yeovil Press that it received “numerous” 999 calls about the incident at The Laurels in Watergore at just after 5.30am.

A spokesman said: “A fire engine from Martock was mobilised to the incident where officers found a car to be well alight and very close to a large hedgerow.

“They therefore requested another fire crew to be mobilised from Martock to assist.”

The spokesman added: “The car was totally destroyed by fire. Crews believed this to be a malicious ignition and police were informed and requested to attend.”

Police are investigating.
