SOMERSET NEWS: Shire horse stuck up to its neck in water
FIREFIGHTERS were given a difficult task this afternoon (Thursday, October 2, 2014) when they had to help rescue a two-tonne shire horse.
Fire Control received a call at just after midday stating that a shire horse was stuck in a rhyne at Red Road in Berrow, near Burnham-on-Sea.
Fire engines from Burnham and Bridgwater were mobilised, along with a specialist animal rescue team.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman told the Yeovil Press: “Crews found a shire horse weighing two-tonnes stuck, up to its neck, in a water-filled ditch.
“With strops, lines and an off-road vehicles, crews managed to release the horse.”
