YEOVIL NEWS: Plenty to do on Super Saturday

SUPER SATURDAY comes to Yeovil town centre tomorrow (Saturday, September 27, 2014) with a variety of activities.

Yeovil Town Council and South Somerset District Council have seized the opportunity to collaborate on the organisation of exciting events in the town.

Following on from last year’s success, Yeovil Town Council with support from Brimsmore Gardens Group will stage the Flower and Gardeners’ Market that will take place between 10am and 4pm at the bandstand in Yeovil. The event will consist of the Yeovil in Bloom Gardening Competition and Best Kept Allotment Competition with a presentation of prizes.

A variety of stalls with a horticultural theme will be provided along with a selection of hot and cold food vendors.

The event will also be complemented by the monthly Farmer’s Market which will be held in nearby Middle   Street.YEOVIL NEWS: Plenty to do on Super Saturday

Family orientated entertainment will take place in the form of Bugfest – a chance to see a variety of exotic and unusual creatures as well other children’s activities including a workshop, face painters and a stilt walker. Buskfest will also provide live music at various locations throughout the town centre.

At King George   Street, you will find the eclectic monthly Vintage Market organised by South Somerset District Council which consists of local retailers offering recycled or ‘up-cycled’ hand painted furniture, interiors, giftware, collectables, vintage clothes and accessories.

There will also be fun activities for the children such as story-telling in the cosy tent by Waterstones, a face painter and CandyShack Mill – the time travelling, Victorian handcart selling flavoured candyfloss.

Cllr Jon Gleeson, chairman of the town council’s promotions and activities committee, said: “Each year the Yeovil Flower and Gardeners’ Market goes from strength to strength and this year’s event will be better than ever.

“Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the Town Centre’s stunning floral displays and the wide range of activities and attractions that have been organised.

“Residents in Yeovil are often calling for more events in the town centre. The flowers and gardener market is just one in a number of ways we are responding to this and to stimulate the town centre economy.”

The district council’s Area South committee chairman, Cllr Peter Gubbins, said: “Super Saturday will have something for everyone - children’s entertainment; a variety of mouth-watering local food; a unique shopping experience at the Vintage Market; a celebration of home grown horticultural talent and live music throughout the town centre.

“This event is a great example of what can be achieved when organisations pull their resources together to create one great day out.”
