YEOVIL NEWS: Castaways could make dreams come true

THE Yeovil-based Castaway Theatre Group – which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this weekend with two shows at the Octagon Theatre – can really help to put talented young people on the road to possible theatrical careers.

Castaways have had a fantastic year and it will now culminate tomorrow (Friday, September 19, 2014) and Saturday (September 20, 2014) with a musical extravaganza at the Octagon in Yeovil to celebrate the group’s tenth anniversary.YEOVIL NEWS: Castaways could make dreams come true

The group was created by the inspirational Lynn Lee Brown to help raise money for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice by putting on a few shows.

But it has grown and grown and the group now has rapidly approaching nearly 100 members – including lots of talented young children within its ranks.

Lynn said: “Most of my children have been with me ten years and now some have reached 16 and are going on to pursue their dreams in London.”

Jack Osmond, who most recently appeared for Castaways as Fagin in the Oliver musical, is at the BritSchool; while Louise Cannon, who played Nancy in Oliver, is at the PPA (Performance Preparation Academy).

Lorna Clark is at the Taunton-based performing arts project The Space, while Katie Orwin is also in Taunton at Richard Huish College.

Lynn said: “All four of them are following their dream in performing arts.”

Already Lynn is looking at the remaining crop of youngsters within Castaways and she is already seeing glimpses of possible star quality among some of them.

Why don’t you go along to the Octagon this weekend to find out what the Castaways are all about.

Tickets for the tenth anniversary show cost £10 each and are available from the Octagon box office on 01935-422884.

The show starts at 7.30pm on both nights.

The tenth anniversary production will cap a fine year for Castaways which has seen them perform the popular pantomime Sleeping Beauty, the amazing musical Oliver!, and take to the stage at the 02 in London.
