There are nearly 60,000 carers in Somerset and many millions of people across the UK now care for a relative or loved one – saving national Government an estimated £119billion each year in social care costs.

The Carers Information Day on September 4 in Yeovil could provide people with a fast-track to the advice and information they need.

Long-time carers champion, Susan Hartnell-Beavis, said: “Many people don’t always recognise themselves as carers.

“This is usually because they are caring for a loved one and the role of caring for another person just creeps up on them over the years. They accept this and just get on with their day-to-day-life.”

But Susan added: “There are all sorts of ways that carers can improve their lives and the lives of those they care for.YEOVIL NEWS: Information day for carers

“Our forthcoming Carers Information day is intended to offer as much essential information, advice and support as possible.

“By caring for carers we can help to prevent crises occurring and may even save the carers from becoming ill themselves.

“The forthcoming Carers Information Day will be an enjoyable and excellent opportunity to meet other carers and share ideas and experiences.”

Free coffee, tea and biscuits will be available the Carers Information Day.

Visitors will also find excellent refreshments available in the garden centre’s restaurant.
