 BREAKING NEWS: Illegal immigrants found in lorry near Ilminster?

THERE are reports coming through this afternoon (Tuesday, August 19, 2014) that police near Ilminster are dealing with a lorry containing suspected illegal immigrants.

People on social media have been talking about a large number of police at the Southfields roundabout by the A303 and A358 and the garage and services restaurant.

Eye-witnesses suggested that it involves around 20 people including children.

UPDATE - 2.50pm (Tuesday, August 19, 2014): Paramedics are at the scene dealing with people suffering from dehydration.

UPDATE – 3pm (Tuesday, August 19, 2014): A police spokesman said: “We stopped a lorry at a service station off the A303 at Southfields Roundabout at about 1pm which contained a group of 20 people who are currently being treated by paramedics for possible dehydration.

“Their health and welfare is paramount as we try to piece together with the immigration authorities exactly what has happened.”

UPDATE – 3.20pm (Tuesday, August 19, 2014): One eye-witness, who passed the area soon after the police incident began, told the Yeovil Press: “We were driving past the garage at Southfields Roundabout and saw that the place was full of police. There was also a large lorry with the doors open and full of people inside.”
