YEOVIL NEWS: Cracking down on speeding

POLICE have carried out a series of speed checks along the fast-moving Lysander Road in Yeovil.

The checks were made following a number of reports given to police about drivers using Lysander Road like a race track - although it has been a constant problem down the years.

A police spokesman, speaking on the Avon and Somerset Constabulary website, said: “As a result a number of drivers have been reported for summons for driving a excess speed.

“We will continue to conduct these checks and utilise the Road Safety Partnership mobile cameras.”

There have also been reports of vehicles driving in an anti-social manner around the Morrisons supermarket car park and the adjoining McDonalds take-away restaurant area.

The police spokesman added: “Due to this, we have worked in conjunction with these businesses and the main parking area at Morrisons is now closed every evening to prevent vehicles gathering at this location.”
