SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: A37 into Yeovil to close for resurfacing

MOTORISTS are being reminded that the A37 in and out of Yeovil is scheduled to close for a week as of tomorrow (Monday, August 11, 2014) for much-needed resurfacing work.

The key road, which was badly damaged by the severe winter weather, will be closed from Ilchester to the Halfway House at Chilthorne Domer.

The A37  Ilchester Road suffered from considerable potholing during the prolonged periods of rain and flooding experienced last winter.

Emergency repairs were carried out at the time, but the road requires more extensive resurfacing hence the need to close it entirely to traffic.

Diversions will be in place, but Somerset County Council’s highways spokesman, Cllr Harvey Siggs, has told the Yeovil Press that he is sure motorists will be understanding of any delays or lengthening of their journey times.

“I’m sure motorists will welcome the upgrade and hope they can understand that some disruption is unavoidable while work takes place,” he said.

Preparatory work has been carried out on the A37 involving traffic lights in recent weeks.
