SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Ilchester Road to close for a week for resurfacing work

SOMERSET County Council has announced that the busy stretch of the Ilchester Road on the A37 will be closed for seven days during August.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Ilchester Road to close for a week for resurfacing work

The council has issued a notice about the temporary closure of Ilchester Road between its junction with Kings Hill at Chilthorne Domer to the junction with the Church Street roundabout at Ilchester, a distance of 2,960 metres.

Although the road closure will bring disruption to one of the busiest roads in and out of Yeovil, motorists who use that stretch of the A37 often will know only too well that resurfacing work is desperately needed.

The bad weather earlier this year saw dozens of potholes appear along there and it became known as the Pothole Mile.

Now the county council’s chief executive, Patrick Flaherty, has said that work to repair the road is to go-ahead.

“This order will enable Somerset Highways to carry out resurfacing works in this road,” he said.

Mr Flaherty said the order would become effective on August 11, 2014, although it would remain in place for 18 months in case of any postponement of the work.

"The works are expected to last for seven days excluding the weekend," he added.

A diversion will be in place during the road closure.
