SOMERSET NEWS: Unexploded mortar shell closes down recycling centre

A SOMERSET recycling centre is likely to be closed until the end of today (Wednesday, July 9, 2014) after the discovery of what is believed to be a mortar shell.

The discovery was made at the Williton Recycling Centre on the town’s Roughmoor Industrial Estate.

It is understood that the mortar shell was brought onto the site by a member of the public. Police were alerted and are on site.

People have been advised that while the Williton centre is closed, they should use the Minehead Recycling Centre on the Mart Road Industrial Estate at TA24 5BJ which is open seven days a week from 8am to 4pm.

Williton Recycling Centre will be closed tomorrow (Thursday, July 10, 2014) and Friday as usual, and is expected to reopen on its usual schedule from Saturday (July 12, 2014) at 8am.
