YEOVIL NEWS: Family thanks people for their kindness

THE family of former Yeovil Mayor, Clive Davis, have sent out a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who has been so kind to them following his untimely death.

The funeral service for 68-year-old Mr Davis was held at St John’s Church in the centre of Yeovil last Friday (June 27, 2014) and was attended by hundreds of mourners – people who wanted to celebrate the life of someone so highly respected and loved.

A family spokesman said: “We’d like to thank everyone who attended Clive’s funeral. Hundreds turned up – he would have been very proud.

“As we left the church, the sun came out just like Clive’s smile, full of warmth and love.

“The family would like to thank everyone for their continued love and support.”

Mr Davis, who served as Yeovil Mayor from 2012-13, died on Friday, May 30, 2014, and since then plenty of tributes have been paid in his memory.YEOVIL NEWS: Family thanks people for their kindness

Among the congregation was another former Yeovil Mayor, Philip Chandler, who said that Mr Davis was so sadly missed.

“Clive has been a great friend since the 1970s,” he said. “For the two years I was Mayor of Yeovil, Clive acted as my Deputy before taking on the role of Mayor the same day as the Queen visited the town.

“When I first met Clive I was told he was a gentle giant. He certainly was – in heart, soul and friendship.”

Mr Davis, a keen motorcyclist, was confined to a wheelchair after a biking accident. But that did not stop him from making his final journey from St John’s to Yeovil Crematorium with his coffin in a sidecar. His family said he would have “loved it.”

Cllr Chandler added: “Clive’s support for the disabled of Yeovil will never forgotten. He was a great man who’s achievements have touched the lives of so many.

“Rest in piece my friend – you are so sadly missed. My prayers and thoughts go to Clive’s wife Sally and his family.”

Another of Mr Davis' council colleagues, Cllr Kris Castle, added: "He was a kind, open hearted and selfless man who put his heart and soul into helping others.

“I would be proud to be considered even half as good a councillor as he was.”

Donations made at the funeral will be given to the Yeovil Street Pastors and Yeovil Freewheelers.
