YEOVIL NEWS: Castaways wow the O2 audience!

THE Yeovil-based Castaway Theatre Group did the town HUGELY proud yesterday (Sunday, June 29, 2014) when they performed in a show at the O2 Arena in London.

The Castaways – under the leadership of Lyn Lee Brown and her trusted team of lieutenants including Tammie Lloyd, Andrea MacLauchlan, Kirsty Beaumont plus others – joined a number of theatrical and musical groups from around the country to put on a show entitled West End Dreams at the London venue.

The show was put together by 1640 Theatre Productions and they gave Castaways the honour of opening the show with a great medley from the hit musical Hairspray.

The Castaways’ next set on stage was from Les Miserables and the members put in a fantastic performance which had many of the audience on their feet at the end.

Although the Castaways group has a number of adult members, it is very much a youth organisation and the youngsters put aside any pre-show nerves they might have to produce an excellent performance.

The Yeovil Press was delighted to join the Castaways for the trip which started with a 6.30am departure from the car park at Huish in Yeovil.

A number of the youngsters admitted to the Yeovil Press on the coach journey up to London that they were nervously excited about performing at the O2.

But they had no time to worry about their nerves once they had arrived at the magnificent venue.

No sooner had the Castaways arrived at the O2 at around 11am and the members were whisked away to start a full rehearsal with their fellow performers.

During the afternoon the O2 got busier with family, friends and supporters of all the groups taking part in the show descending on the arena.

While Castaways produced great first-half performances with Hairspray and Les Miserables, they still had more to come after the interval with a super full-energy medley of songs from the musical Matilda.

The Castaway Theatre Group did Yeovil proud and Yeovil should be proud of the Castaway Theatre Group.

It was a privilege to be a part of the Castaways’ big day out.
