YEOVIL NEWS: Move over Dolly - the Castaways are coming to the O2!

THERE will be nervous excitement building this evening (Saturday, June 28, 2014) among the members of Yeovil-based Castaways Theatre Group as they prepare to take to the stage of the 02 in London.

The talented group will be setting off early tomorrow (Sunday, June 29, 2014) morning for the O2 in readiness for their 6.30pm show entitled West End Dreams put together by 1640 Theatre Productions.

The Castaways will join other youth groups to put on a fabulous show for family, friends and supporters in the magnificent O2.

Castaways’ founder, Lyn Lee Brown, said: “I will be so proud of all the Castaways performing at the O2.”

The group was first formed in 2005 – initially to help raise funds for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

But the group has grown since then and is now one of the most popular youth organisations in the Yeovil area.

And Lyn added: “As a group we have come so far; who would have thought ten years ago when we did our first show at Barwick Hall that we would be ending up performing at the 02?

“Tomorrow (Sunday, June 29, 2014) will be a day to remember!”

The 1640 Theatre Productions has over the past 15 years worked with more than 10,000 children to help them perform in a show on a West End stage or at the 02.

It also works to promote knife-crime awareness and educate children of all ages about the consequences of knife-crime and the devastating effect it has on families.

The O2 is tonight (Saturday, June 28, 2014) playing host to the Queen of Country Music, Dolly Parton, in concert.

It is somewhat ironic therefore that while Somerset-based Castaways will tomorrow be getting ready to perform themselves at the O2, Dolly Parton will be finishing off her performance back home in Somerset on the Pyramid Stage at the Glastonbury Festival.

Who knows? Some of the talented members of Castaways might one day perform at Glastonbury?
