SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Police release CCTV of VW Golf involved in hit and run

CCTV images of a car police need to locate as part of a hit and run investigation near Ilminster has been released in the hope someone will recognise it.

It follows an incident on Saturday (June 21, 2014) morning on an unclassified road between Barrington   Hill Road and Wood Road near Horton.

A black VW Golf was driving erratically and at speed in the Taunton direction when he overtook a cyclist in an aggressive manor. The cyclist had to veer off towards the side of the road.

The driver of a blue Renault Scenic stopped to ask the cyclist if he was ok at which point the driver of the Golf turned around, pulled up behind the Sceneic and shouted abuse at the other driver. He then revved the engine and deliberately drove at the Scenic drivier, throwing him into the air and leaving him with serious bruising and shock.

The incident is being investigated be detectives from Yeovil CID and enquiries have uncovered CCTV in the area which shows a black VW Golf. We need to locate the vehicle and identify the driver.

Detective Constable Andy Tearle said: "This was a deliberate assault by the driver who used his vehicle as a weapon. Paramedics who attended the scene said that the injuries could easily have been a lot worse so we're taking this incident very seriously.

"I'd like to identify this vehicle and its owner and I'm appealing to our communities in Somerset to take a look at the footage and let us know if they recognise this vehicle. I would also like to hear from anyone who has been asked to fix a similar vehicle - particularly if it had damage to its front or side."
