SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Montacute Carnival blessed with fab weather!

GORGEOUS weather ensured the crowds came out to support the annual Montacute Carnival this evening (Saturday, June 21, 2014).

The streets of the small, historic village were lined with people for the Carnival procession which was blessed with a picture postcard blue sky.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Montacute Carnival blessed with fab weather!

In the parade there were spacemen and clowns; Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Call the Midwife; scarecrows and Geisha girls.

But above all – there were plenty of big smiles on the faces of everyone who were enjoying the proceedings which were played out in perfect conditions.

Pupils from All Saints Primary School in Montacute won the Evelyn Fox Cup for the most entertaining entry in the Carnival with Wonka’s Bars, while the tiny tots from Montacute Pre-School won the Marshalsea Cup for best child’s entry in the parade with Under the Sea.

At the head of the parade – which started and finished within the grounds of the National Trust’s majestic Montacute House – was Carnival Prince Toby Schaefer, eight, and Carnival Princess Amy Redward, seven.

There were various sideshows, activities and refreshments to enjoy at Montacute House during the Carnival night with music provided by the Flatland Boogie Band.

Among the activities was a “beat the goalie” competition organised by Montacute Youth FC with the help of Yeovil Town Ladies and the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust.

Carnival committee chairman Ed Siegle thanked everyone for supporting the event.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Montacute Carnival blessed with fab weather!

“All the money we raise goes to good causes in the local community,” he said in the Carnival programme.

“My sincere thanks go not only to the dedicated committee, but to the many others that help out – selling draw tickets, putting up bunting, parking cars, shaking tins, manning stalls; the list goes on and on!

“But without their help the Carnival could not take place.

“We also thank the National Trust for allowing us to use Montacute House as the stunning backdrop to our event.”

And Ed added: “A special thanks go to the departing chairman Greg Dargue – who has helped to make the Carnival such a success in recent years.”
