SOMERSET NEWS: Firefighters from across county called to warehouse blaze

FIREFIGHTERS from across Somerset were yesterday (Friday, June 13, 2014) dealing with a blaze at an industrial warehouse.

The alarm was raised at just after 6.15pm to the incident on the Leighton Lane Industrial Estate in Evercreech with reports of a refrigeration unit on fire within a building.

Three fire engines from Shepton Mallet and Castle Cary were initially mobilised and officers found a large refrigerated warehouse heavily smoke logged.

Two further fire engines from Wells and Wincanton, along with an incident command unit from Street, were also called out.SOMERSET NEWS: Firefighters from across county called to warehouse blaze

Further support was mobilised including a hazardous materials expert and an environmental protection advisor.

Just before 7pm the firefighters confirmed that the blaze was within a refrigeration unit.

The number of fire engines totalled eight later when three more arrived from Frome, Cheddar and Yeovil. An aerial ladder platform and a water carrier – both from Yeovil – were also mobilised.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service recorded at 9.45pm that the incident was over with the blaze having been confined to an extraction compartment of the refrigeration storage unit.

“The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental,” said a Fire Service spokesman.
