SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Casualty suffers burns in cooker fire

A PERSON needed medical treatment for smoke inhalation and burns this morning (Sunday, June 1, 2014) following a fire at a property in Chard.

The alarm was raised at just after 6am to the incident in Foundry Mews and two fire engines from Chard were mobilised.

Firefighters found there was a fire that had started within a cooker and found that one occupant was in need of medical assistance.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “The occupant had partially extinguished the fire using buckets of water. Crews went to work and put out the fire.”

The first floor of the property was 50 per cent damaged by fire and heat.

The spokesman added: “The casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.”
