YEOVIL NEWS: Friends for life after agonising accident at country park

A STUDENT at Buckler’s Mead Academy knows he has gained “friends for life” after they came to his rescue after suffering an agonising injury while playing at the Yeovil Country Park.

It was on Saturday (May 17, 2014) afternoon that Jordan Williamson, 13, was playing at the park – better known as Ninesprings – with his mates Jamie Garratt, Leon Farley and Jack Curtis, also all aged 13 and from Buckler's Mead.

They were playing on a rope swing in the woods when Jordan fell and landed awkwardly on his leg and foot. Initially the boys laughed, but then Jordan said he thought he had broken his leg.

Jordan’s friends took immediate action after seeing his foot was misshapen with bone and blood exposed.

Jamie’s mum, Vicky, told Yeovil Press: “Jack rang for an ambulance and Jamie and Leon rand down into the park and shouted for help.YEOVIL NEWS: Friends for life after agonising accident at country park

“Two men came up to where they were and stayed with Jack and Jordan, while Jamie and Leon went to guide the paramedics up to the scene.

Jordan was taken to Yeovil District Hospital where he was stabilised before being transferred to the Bristol Children’s Hospital.

He has undergone emergency surgery to repair his injuries and is expected to stay in hospital for the remainder of the week.

Jordan’s mum, Nyreen Coupe, said she could not thank his friends and the two men that came to help enough.

“The lads were so brave and did everything right on the day – even when they must have been so scared,” she said.

“I am very proud of them and can’t thank them enough. I’ve now gained three extra sons in my eyes.”

And Nyreen added: “Jordan will never forget what they did for him – they will be friends for life.”

Nyreen said the paramedics were “brilliant” as were her friends Michelle Nathan and Corinne Farley and her partner Jack, along with Vicky Garrett.

“I’d like to thank all my friends that have helped with my other two children that are younger than Jordan – having them while I’m with Jordan in hospital,” she added.
