YEOVIL NEWS: Council confirms Peter Brock's resignation

YEOVIL Town Council has confirmed this afternoon (Monday, April 28, 2014) that Peter Brock has resigned his position as a councillor on the authority.

A notice of vacancy has now been posted by town clerk Alan Tawse which states that unless there is a need to hold an election, the council will look to fill the vacancy by co-option.YEOVIL NEWS: Council confirms Peter Brock's resignation

A town council statement reads: “In accordance with election law, unless a request for an election to be held is submitted in writing before May 19, 2014, to the Proper Officer of South Somerset District Council at the Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil signed by ten electors in the West Ward of the Parish of Yeovil Town, the town council will proceed to fill the vacancy by co-option.”

Mr Brock revealed last week that he was resigning from the council over recent court proceedings in which he pleaded guilty to stealing £1,200 from the Royal British Legion.

Town clerk Alan Tawse told the Yeovil Press this afternoon: “The town council wishes to reiterate that the charges for which Mr Brock has been convicted related solely to his activities with another organisation and were not related to his previous role as an elected member of Yeovil Town Council.”
