YEOVIL NEWS: AgustaWestland apprentices at Westminster

TWO employees from Yeovil-based AgustaWestland were in London last week to help celebrate the role apprentices play in the UK aerospace industry.

Apprentices David Richards and Tom Philips, who are both currently working at AgustaWestland in Yeovil, were invited to a reception in the House of Commons organised by ADS Group, the UK aerospace trade association.

The event was designed to celebrate the crucial role apprentices play in the UK aerospace industry, an industry that is worth £24billion to the UK economy.YEOVIL NEWS: AgustaWestland apprentices at Westminster

Many of Britain’s leading aerospace companies attended the reception, along with some of their apprentices, and David Richards and Tom Philips represented AgustaWestland at the event.

Yeovil MP David Laws said: “I really enjoyed meeting David and Tom and listening to their positive experiences of being apprentices at AgustaWestland.

“They are great ambassadors for AgustaWestland, and they highlighted a lot of the positives that apprenticeships can bring to young people and the companies who employ them.

Since 2010 we have created 1.6 million new apprenticeships across the country, and engineering apprenticeships in particular are hugely important for the future of the UK’s manufacturing industries.”

Mr Laws added: “It was great to meet David and Tom who are working towards highly skilled apprenticeships which will give them fantastic opportunities going forward.”
