SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Streetscene staff on the clean-up operation

THE clean-up operation following the floods is still ongoing and members of South Somerset District Council’s Streetscene Services team have been out in force to get the roads looking squeaky clean again.

They have been cleaning, sweeping and litter picking along roads in areas which had been badly affected by the floods.

Road sweepers have cleared any silt and debris that has been left on the highway as a result of flooding in South Somerset.

Staff from Streetscene Services have also been litter picking the verges and hedges along the roadsides, emptying all litter bins in the areas and are patrolling the current waterlines every day to watch for any further debris to clear where possible.SOUTH SOMERSET NEWS: Streetscene staff on the clean-up operation

Areas that have been swept and clean include the access road from Long Load to Muchelney, the Langport to Muchelney and Hambridge to Kingsbury Episcopi roads as well as the Oath access roads from Langport and Curry Rivel.

Teams have also been out removing unwanted sandbags from households.  This is an extremely large task and something that is not normally done after they have been issued to households.

The district’s spokesman for environment and economic development, Cllr Jo Roundell Greene, said: “The teams have been working really hard on this clean up over the past couple of weeks.

“We wanted to do our very best to ensure that the communities which have been affected by the flooding can return to some form of normality.”
