Police appeal for witnesses over A37 five-vehicle smash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a five-vehicle road traffic collision in which a man was seriously injured.

The collision happened at about 7.50am on Tuesday (March 18, 2014) on the main A37 northbound, near to the A303, at Ilchester.

A Renault Clio was slowing down, approaching queuing vehicles on the A37, followed by a VW transporter van and ambulance.

The ambulance was in collision with the VW transporter, which in turn was in collision with the Clio.

A police spokesman said: “The VW transporter is then reported to have crossed on to the other side of the road, where it was in collision with an on-coming lorry, laden with bricks.Police appeal for witnesses over A37 five-vehicle smash

“The driver of the VW was seriously injured and taken to FrenchayHospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

“Following the collision the ambulance went down a roadside embankment and was in collision with a parked BMW.

“Collision investigators are keen to hear from anyone who was driving along the A37 before and at the time of the incident, who may have information to help them piece together exactly what happened.”
