Seat Toledo auction: If something sounds too good to be true it usually is

THERE is an old adage that if “something sounds too good to be true it usually is” and that would appear to be the case – sadly – for the top bid in the online auction for the sunken Seat Toledo of Muchelney.

The much-publicised auction on eBay closed tonight (Thursday, March 20, 2014) with a top bid of £101,100.

But Hubert Zajaczkowski, who works as an apprentice at Yeovil-based AgustaWestland, has told local media in his home town of Shepton Mallet that he has already discovered that the “bidder” was just having a laugh and turned out to be a 12-year-old boy.

It is now understood that Hubert is going down the list of offers to find the highest genuine bidder.

Money raised from the auction will be donated to the MuchThorn Wings flood relief charity which is helping victims of the Somerset floods.

Hubert had to abandon his car in floodwater on the road to Muchelney on Christmas Eve and only recovered it from the water last week.
