Kerching! Winning six-figure amount for sunken Seat Toledo
A MASSIVE surge in bids in the online charity auction for the wrecked Seat Toledo has closed tonight (Thursday, March 20, 2014) with the top offer being set at a whopping £101,100.
The online auction on eBay closed at 8.10pm with car owner Hubert Zajaczkowski selling the car – which remained submerged on the flooded road to the “island” of Muchelney for two-and-a-half months – in aid of a flood-related appeal for the Somerset Levels.
But the winning bid of £101,100 is a massive amount of money and hopefully it will not prove to be a hoax.
A total of 123 bids were made for the 1999 Toledo which Hubert, an apprentice at Yeovil-firm AgustaWestland, bought a couple of years ago for £600.
Hubert had to abandon the car in floodwater on Christmas Eve and was only able to recover the vehicle last week.
