Signature Viceroy serves up sizzling success for School in a Bag charity

PEOPLE who like hot food certainly served up a sizzling recipe for fundraising success as they helped to raise nearly £1,600 for the Piers Simon Appeal and School in a Bag charity last week by tucking in at a charity curry night in Yeovil.

A total of 90 diners attended the charity night at the Signature Viceroy restaurant in Yeovil where they raised a total of £1,565.31.Signature Viceroy serves up sizzling success for School in a Bag charity

That money will help fund 104 of 1,500 schoolbags – packed with essential everyday items for children such as pens, pencils, notepads and eating utensils – which are being sent to the Philippines in the wake of the destructive typhoon last November which affected 14 million people and left a third of those with their homes damaged or destroyed.

School in a Bag spokesman Luke Simon said: “The curry night was a roaring success and there was a real Carnival atmosphere at the Signature Viceroy.

“I started the night off with a game of ‘heads and tails’ which got everyone going, we held a ticket draw to win Home Farm Festival tickets and we also had a raffle.

“The Viceroy staff were superb and it is hoped that we can make this an annual event.”

It is hoped that the schoolbags will be distributed this coming week to children of Linao School in the Philippines.

The Piers Simon Appeal and its subsequent School in a Bag initiative was created following the death of former Preston School and Yeovil College student who died during the Asian Tsunami of Boxing Day 2004.

The charity’s main fundraising event of the year is the three-day music Home Farm Festival which will be held at Home Farm in Chilthorne Domer on June 6-8, 2014.
