Lights go out in Stoke

VILLAGERS in Stoke-sub-Hamdon were left without power yesterday (Wednesday, February 4, 2014) after an electricity pole was struck by a tree.

One fire engine from Martock was mobilised at just before 4.30pm and officers found an electricity cable had come down at Stonehill.

They made the scene safe, put out a fire and isolated the power.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “We carried out a door to door check to ascertain if there were any vulnerable people without electricity.

“Many residents lit candles and crews also offered safety advice.”
